Sukkur Customs confiscates smuggled items worth Rs4.6m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) and Customs Preventive Sukkur  in a joint operation confiscated 109 cartons of foreign origin cigarettes, fabric, 20 bags gutka, 100 cartons of  foreign origin chocolate, blankets, LCDs, 30 liters of  super oil  and other  items worth Rs4.6 million involving duty and taxes Rs2.8 million in Sukkur.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Agha Shahid Majeed Khan received credible information about transportation of non-duty paid goods through National Highway. Agha Shahid immediately constituted a team under the supervision of Additional Collector Rehmatullah Vistro and instructed them to foil the smuggling attempt.

The ASO team with the assistance of the customs preventive Sukkur started searching vehicles near check post Jacobabad. While searching the vehicles, the ASO team intercepted a Sada Bahar passenger coach bearing registration No: JB-3486 loaded with miscellaneous non-duty paid items.

The ASO team recovered 109 cartons of cigarettes (Pine and Royal), 39 cartons of fabric, 20 small bags of gutka, 38 cartons of biscuits, 100 cartons of chocolate, 30 cartons max albino, blankets, 10 pieces of LCD 40 inch Samsung, diesel and petrol.

The ASO team asked the possessor of the goods to show the legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the goods but he failed to provide any required document.

The ASO team, after registering a case of smuggling, confiscated the goods and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceeding.

The confiscated items have been deposited to the customs state warehouse Sukkur.
