Sukkur customs seizes ten sacks of betel nuts valued Rs425000

HYDERABAD: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Hyderabad, Customs Preventive Sukkur, has confiscated ten smuggled sacks of betel nuts weighed 780 kg worth Rs425000 involving duties and taxes of Rs216750 during a raid in Sukkur division.

Sources told Customs Today  that Collector Model Customs Collectorate Hyderabad Agha Shahid Majeed Khan received a tip-off about the smuggling of foreign origin betel nuts. He immediately formed a raiding party under the supervision of Additional Collector Rehmatuallah Vistro.

The team intercepted a vehicle near checkpost Jacobabad-Larkana-Sukkur-Division and recovered the said item. The item was being transported from Quetta to Sukkur.

The ASO team asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents regarding the import and possession of goods but he failed to prove anything. The team seized the item under the customs bylaws.

A seizure report was prepared and the contraband item was deposited into the State Ware House of Sukkur Division.

The ASO team, comprising Superintendent Ghulam Shabbir Phalputo, Inspectors Nasrullah Jalal, Ayaz Ali Shah, Rahib Ali Abro, Abdul Wahab Sheikh, Muhammad Jurial Abbasi, Agha Nazir Ahmed, Sepoys Shabbir Ahmed Thebo, Iqbal Sheikh, Hawaldar Mehram Ali, Driver Manzoor Shori and other staff, took part in the operation.
