QUETTA: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization Quetta, with the assistance of Frontier Corps, took into possession 60,000 liters of Iranian diesel along with an oil tanker priced at Rs10.3million.
According to details given by Ashraf Ali, Collector, Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad that, on a tip-off shared by the sources of MCC Quetta, the ASO Quetta set up a picket and impounded a tanker filled with Iranian diesel measured 60,000 liter worth of Rs5.36million and the tanker valued at Rs5.00million.
The said impounding was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Collector Maqbool Baloch, Superintent Maqbool Durrani, Inspector Muhammad Shabir Khan along with other staff. A criminal case has been registered against the smugglers of the diesel and further investigation is underway. The case has been forwarded to the Collector Adjudication Quetta for further action.
During the last month of March 2017-18, six anti-smuggling squads of the Customs Collectorate Quetta, with the assistance of FC, took into possession High Speed Diesel along oil tankers worth Rs15million from three dumping grounds.
Ashraf Ali told CT that, during said seizure, the ASO Quetta, with the assistance of Frontier Corps, raided three dumping grounds of smuggled diesel situated at Hazar Ganji, Saryab Road, Quetta and confiscated 120,000 liters of High Speed Diesel (HSD).
The Collector told Customs Today that the HSD was recovered from the underground storage tanks and drums which were seized on the spot. It was told that the CIF value of the impounded HSD is around Rs8.1million and the value of the oil tankers is Rs7million.
Due to strict vigilance on diesel and its main sources of smuggling by the customs authorities, the smuggling of diesel has been minimised to a great extent.
