The Regional Tax Office observed that doctors community have deposited less taxes than their income as huge number of doctors are serving in their private clinics and hospitals. Doctors are charging huge consultancy fees from their patients on medical examination but their tax returns are not matching with their monthly income.

Tax authorities decided to investigate the less taxes collected by Regional Tax Office during ongoing fiscal year 2017-18. Regional Tax Office has already started crackdown against defaulters as they are suffering huge shortfall in income tax collection during existing economic year.

Sources told Customs Today that Nishtar Medical College Hospital professors, associate professors assistant professors, registrars and others are earning handsome salaries from government and they are also running their private hospitals and clinics besides their government jobs in which they charge heavy consultancy fees from their patients.

Tax authorities found that doctors have deposited less tax from previous fiscal years while their income has been increased due to raise in annual salaries. Inland Revenue staff of Regional Tax Office will visit field offices to inspect their actual income and teams have been formed which will cross-examine their income and submitted their report in this regard. Further proceedings will be conducted after field visit of Inland Revenue teams.
