LAHORE: The tax on LPG distribution has been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The court seeks reply from the ministry of petroleum till April 5.

Justice Aisha-A-Malik heard the appeal filed by Javaid Khan Distributor. The counsel for appellant argued before the court that the Government of Pakistan cannot impose any tax on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution. The distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is exempted from taxes by law.

He added that besides exemption Oil and Gas Regularity Authority (OGRA) has served a tax notice on the company of over Rs seven million that violates Oil and Gas Regularity Authority (OGRA) rules and the Liquefied Petroleum Gas’ (LPG) policy.

The counsel for appellant prayed before the LHC that the court may declare null and void the tax notice issued by the petroleum ministry on the LPG supply.

After hearing the arguments, the Lahore High Court issued notice to ministry of petroleum and seeks reply on April 5.
