ISLAMABAD: The taxpayers across the country paid no heed to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan’s call for disobedience and non-payment of taxes as they contributed more than Rs 7 billion to the national exchequer under the heads of General Sale Tax, Central Excise Duty, Custom Duty and Withholding Tax, informed sources in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The sources said that even a senior leader of PTI Jehangir Khan Tareen paid Rs8 million in the head of Sales Tax, Income Tax and Customs duty to FBR on Monday and also cleared goods at a seaport.
They said that people were also paying sales tax at various shops across the country and paying taxes on daily basis. “People are buying packed milk and other groceries and items from the general stores and are paying their taxes”, the sources remarked.
They said that on daily basis the FBR had been collecting Rs6 to Rs7 billion in terms of ST, CED, Withholding Tax and Customs Duty, adding that the revenue authority collected more than Rs7 billion as usual on Monday, the day when PTI chief made a call for civil disobedience.
“There is no reduction in the government revenues in the aftermath of the PTI’s disobedience call as taxpayers is paying as much they owe”, they informed.
They pointed out that this country belonged to the masses and as true Pakistani, every citizen should pay their due taxes for the socioeconomic prosperity of the country”, they stressed.
They termed the statement of the PTI chief for disobedience as a “non-sense statement by an immature politician.”
Meanwhile, the residence of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad rejected the civil disobedience movement announced by PTI’s Chairman Imran Khan and are paying their utility bills as per routine.
All commercial banks are collecting utility bills from the residence of the twin cities as per routine and no reduction in the collection has been observed.
