ISLAMABAD: Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) S M Muneer Friday reiterated the government’s commitment for exploring new international markets for Pakistani mangoes.
He was addressing a ceremony “to savor Pakistan’s collection of delicious mangoes” here at a local hotel.
The event organized by TDAP was attended by a large number diplomats, representatives of business community and senior officials of the authority.
The guests were offered tasty varieties of mangoes produced in Punjab and Sindh.
Secretary TDAP Ms Rabiya Agha Javeri highlighted the aims and objectives of the event and hoped that such kind of events would help popularize the Pakistani mangoes abroad.
Speaking on the occasion, S M Muneer said that the export of mangoes was affected due to power shortage in the country.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he said, was taking special steps for the electricity generation. The projects initiated by the present government, he added, would help end loadshedding in next few years.
During last fiscal year, mangoes worth $ 44 million were exported and efforts would be made to enhance the same by exploring new international markets, he added.
Muneer said that the Pakistani mangoes were in great demand in international markets, including Japan, UAE, US and Korea and other countries.
Pakistani mangoes, he said, were popular for taste, quality, sweetness, distinct flavor, naturally woven fibers, pleasant aroma and the softness of contents.
He called upon the diplomats to help boost Pakistani mangoes export to their respective countries.
Rodolf J Martin, Ambassador of Argentina to Pakistan, on the occasion appreciated the taste on Pakistani mangoes.
“Mangoes are the symbol of Pakistan’s identity,” he said lauding the TDAP for organizing the event to popularize the “king of fruits” among the diplomats.
The other diplomats also appreciated the taste and quality of the Pakistani mangoes and wished to import Pakistani mangoes in their respective countries.
