Customs Intelligence seizes 166,373 litres of Iranian oil & diesel, 35 arrested

LAHORE: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi seized 166,373 litres of Iranian diesel and petrol and arrested 35 people in an operation in the open sea. 

The official sources said that they had received information that Iranian diesel was being smuggled in a huge quantity through sea. The officials decided to enhance surveillance and launched an anti-smuggling operation in the open sea.

During the operation, five launches were impounded and 35 smugglers were also apprehended. The launches were subsequently brought to the Karachi harbour under the supervision of the Customs Intelligence and Intelligence. Thorough search was conducted and 166,373 litres of smuggled diesel and petrol was seized. Estimated value of the oil and launches is around Rs 30 million.
