Three smuggled vehicles valued Rs05m auctioned

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department, Gujranwala Region, has held an auction of three impounded vehicles worth Rs05million on the other day.

Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan supervised the auction of non-customs paid duty vehicles on the premises of department office whereas Assistant Director Itrat Hussain, Superintendent Tahir Rafique and Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar were members of auction committee. Seven parties participated in the bid while three ones gave bidding and and purchased three vehicles, including Toyota Hilux Surf, for Rs2.8million, Toyota Mark 11, for Rs1.4million and Toyota GLI for Rs950000.

Office Superintendent Sajjad Rubanni told Customs Today that the field staff impounded the auctioned vehicles from Grand Trunk (GT) Road, Sambrial, and Wazirabad in November and December 2016. He said the cases of impounded vehicles were referred before the Adjudication Court for proceeding while and the court announced judgment in the favour of the department to auction the vehicles under Section 158/159 of the Customs Act-1969.
