TOKYO: Tokyo stocks opened 0.25 per cent higher Friday as the weak yen boosted exporter shares, adding to gains that have lifted the benchmark index to fresh three-month highs and put it just shy of the key 20,000 mark.
The Nikkei 225 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange added 49.64 points to 19,994.05 in early deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares rose 0.15 per cent, or 2.38 points, to 1,604.70.
