PESHAWAR: The customs clearing agents have called off a protest demonstration after meeting with Deputy Collector Customs at Torkham Customs Station on Tuesday at Khyber Agency.
The protest was announced by All Customs Clearing Agents Torkham border against the decision of Pakistan Customs to register the exports to Afghanistan with WebOC due to which President All Torkham Clearing Agents protested and said that it’s very strange to introduce the WebOC registration only on Torkham border.
Collector Customs at Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar Gul Rahman earlier directed the officials to negotiate with the clearing agents in order to restart the trade activities between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The collector further said the international world has adopted the concept of digital customs to stop terrorism during collection of revenue at every cross point to other country for which WebOC was introduced for registration of goods.
The WebOC service is an online registration process in which data is registered on computer and then online transaction of money is made after which green chit is given to the driver.
Hidayat Ullah further said Torkham Customs Station lacks proper facilities to carry out the registration of exports through WebOC cell which has stranded many trucks across the border which causes national treasury a loss of millions each day.
The sources told Customs Today on Tuesday that in the presence of the APA Khyber Agency a meeting was held with Deputy Collector Customs at Torkham Customs Station which announced an end to the protest.
The Deputy Collector Customs appreciated the stance and said all the cross border exports will be done after registration with WebOC along every border to further digitalize the trade mechanism.
The Deputy Collector also appreciated the APA Khyber Agency to facilitate an end of the protests carried out by all Torkham Customs Clearing Agents.
