Torkham Customs handles 39,432 consignments in Q1

ISLAMABAD: Torkham Customs Station handled around 39,432 trucks/consignments passed through Pak-Afghan border during first quarter (July-September) of financial year 2016-17.

Officials said that performance of Torkham Customs was remained satisfactory but slightly low as compare to same period of last fiscal year 2015-16, adding that recent tension at Pak-Afghan border brought the trade to a halt causing decline in import/export activities. During last year, the customs handled around 40,075 consignments.

During July 2016, around 7086 trucks passed through the border, while the quantity stood at 11,190 during same corresponding period of last year, they informed, adding that 18219 trucks were cleared at the border in August 2016 against 14,093 trucks in August 2015.

The Torkham Customs handled 14,127 trucks, which crossed Pak-Afghan border carrying consignments during September 2016, while the quantity stood at 14,792 in September 2015.
