TOKYO: The value of the trade exchange between Japan and the emirate of Abu Dhabi amounted to AED3.7 billion in the first five months of the current year, new data reveals.
Trade exchange is heavily in favour of Japan, whose exports to Abu Dhabi reached AED3.6bn, while imports from the emirate stood at only AED25.7 million, according to figures released by the Abu Dhabi Customs Administration.
The figures were highlighted during a meeting between the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, Majed al-Mansoori, and the president of the Japan Centre for International Finance, Takatoshi Kato.
The meeting touched on ways to cement cooperation and economic ties between Japan and Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general, Aliqtisadi reports.
Most of the United Arab Emirates’ exports to the Far Eastern Asian nation are crude oil and natural gas. The UAE is the second biggest supplier of crude oil to Japan. Aluminium is another main UAE export to Japan.
Japan is considered the world’s largest trading partner of the UAE. In 2014, the trade exchange between Abu Dhabi and Japan stood at AED10.4bn; this consisted of mostly exports from Japan.
