Transporters threatens for countrywide strike from Feb. 4

KARACHI: The United Transporters Goods Association (UTGA) have threatened the government to accept its demand otherwise they would go for countrywide strike.

The UTGA delegation put forward seven demands before the government and demanded for its acceptance immediately.

The UTGA demanded the government to allot 500-acre land for truck stand at Northern By-pass, to stop Afghan Transit Trade (ATT) vehicles intervention in local market of transportation,  to open Mai Kolachi Road for heavy vehicles, otherwise to construct Southern By-pass, to expedite the pace of development works at Hawks Bay Truck Stand related to sewerage system, removal of encroachments around it and construction of roads.

The UTGA further demanded of the government to issue directives for releasing arms license to the transporters for their safety, to restrict the traffic police personnel for harrassing the truck drivers and to allocate lands for truck stands at province and district levels.

The transporters also announced that if the government would not accept their demand immediately before February 4, then they would go for strike for the indefinate time frame.
