PESHAWAR: Not satisfied with nominal share of revenue received from the exporters at Afghan border, elders of Khaugakhel clan of Shinwari tribe of Landi Kotal have opposed the second agreement regarding the construction of Torkham terminal for export containers, and demanded the government cancel it and implement the first one without any delay.
In interview with Customs Today on Monday, Zakria Shinwari, an elder of Shinwari tribe said that political administration on the directives of the government constituted a nine members committee of Khugakhel tribe for negotiations with the government, regarding the construction of Torkham terminal, some nine month ago. In this regard, he said negotiations were held with tribal elders, along with political administration, security forces and officials of the National Logistic Cell (NLC).
They said that Custom Collector Qurban Ali has also stressed the tribesmen and business community to start work at National Logistic Cell terminal at Torkham but they are not satisfied with this agreement as the nominal share from the government will not satisfy the people of Khugakhel tribe.
Flanked by Zulfiqar Shinwari, Ajar Khan Shinwari, PTI Landi Kotal chapter leader, Abdul Razzaq, PML-N leader Israr, Jamat-e-Islami Saeed Hakim, Mr Zakria said that an agreement was signed between the political administration of Khyber Agency and Commandant FC on June 04, last year.
As per the agreement, he said that Khugakhel tribe will get Rs 20 million annually for 300 kanals lands, while the tribe share will also increase by 80 per cent. However, he said now the officials were trying to break the agreement, which is unacceptable to them.
They warned not allow Torkham terminal for parking of container, if NLC officers did not implemented the first agreement. He demanded of the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab and authorities concerned of the Fata Secretariat to implement the first agreement, signed with Khugakhel tribe.
