ISLAMABAD: The Customs Appellate Tribunal’s single bench consisting of Tribunal Chairman Ghulam Murtaza Bhatti has reserved a judgement on three cases involving seizure of 393 vehicles, belonging to overseas Pakistanis, by the Customs Department.
The Customs Appellate Tribunal chairman reserved the decision after hearing concluding arguments on the day. Two cases were filed by Peshawar Customs collector while one was filed by M/s Waheed Hamid.
The Peshawar Customs collector had filed cases against Sajid Iqbal and others. The collector challenged departmental decision that directed the collector to release 393 vehicles in a lawful manner after charging imposable taxes. However, the collector challenged the decision in the Customs Appellate Tribunal and now the tribunal would decide the fate of 393 vehicles that belong to overseas Pakistanis.
Meanwhile, the tribunal also reserved judgement on M/s Waheed Hamid’s petition. The company had submitted its plea regarding the Customs Department’s decision to dispose of the unlawfully imported liquor and the auction of some other items. The company had sought a settlement with the Customs Department after paying the due taxes and duties. Waheed Hamid company’s counsel also argued for return of Rs 2.7 million (liquor’s cost) after charging the taxes on the amount.
