UK stocks stronger at end of trade, United Kingdom 100 jumps 0.54%

LONDON: U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Construction & Materials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.54%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO), which rose 7.53% or 42.50 points to trade at 607.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN) added 7.02% or 8.6500 points to end at 131.8000 and Pearson PLC (LONDON:PSON) was up 3.02% or 33.00 points to 1124.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Standard Chartered PLC (LONDON:STAN), which fell 1.67% or 11.900 points to trade at 701.400 at the close. Sports Direct International PLC (LONDON:SPD) declined 1.51% or 12.000 points to end at 780.500 and J Sainsbury PLC (LONDON:SBRY) was down 0.84% or 2.000 points to 235.400.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1133 to 977 and 452 ended unchanged.

Shares in Standard Chartered PLC (LONDON:STAN) fell to 5-year lows; losing 1.67% or 11.900 to 701.400.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.34% or 3.80 to $1117.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 3.54% or 1.63 to hit $44.42 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.72% or 1.84 to trade at $47.77 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.77% to 1.5287, while EUR/GBP fell 0.57% to 0.7306.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 96.14.
