NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.74%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were RSA Insurance Group PLC (L:RSA), which rose 3.42% or 14.200 points to trade at 429.300 at the close. Meanwhile, AstraZeneca PLC (L:AZN) added 2.90% or 119.50 points to end at 4247.00 and EasyJet PLC (L:EZJ) was up 2.31% or 40.000 points to 1772.000 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which fell 7.68% or 44.50 points to trade at 534.60 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (L:STAN) declined 6.31% or 42.200 points to end at 627.000 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (L:MRW) was down 5.63% or 10.00 points to 167.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1171 to 911 and 525 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.68% or 44.50 to 534.60.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.20 to $1106.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.76% or 0.35 to hit $45.97 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $48.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.98% to 1.5236, while EUR/GBP rose 1.04% to 0.7138.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 98.09.
