Traders want another chance to avail tax amnesty scheme

LAHORE: Unaware of the deadline for filing tax returns under the Voluntarily Tax Compliance Scheme (VTCS), a number of traders visited the Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) on Thursday only to know that the deadline expired on April 30, 2016.

Talking to Customs Today, one of the traders said that as he approached the submission desk and was informed that the deadline for tax amnesty scheme had expired. There were rumours that the deadline will be extended for the fourth time on which the traders visited the regional offices to take benefit of the scheme, he added.

Another visitor shared his experience of getting disappointed when the officials told him that he could not avail the benefits announced by the government under the VTCS. He asked the government to give another chance to the traders who wanted to come into the tax net.

On the other hand, officials said that the government had already given three extensions in the scheme but the results were not enough fruitful. As the current fiscal year going to end and all department concerned are busy in making the budget for next fiscal year 2016-17, the government will not involve itself in any other activity on this crucial time.
