WASHINGTON: The unemployment rates dropped in Macon and Warner Robins in May. Macon’s metropolitan unemployment rate was 5.1 percent in May, down from 5.4 percent in April and down 6.6 percent from May 2015, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Labor. The number of jobs in Macon increased by 500 to 104,300 in May, the release said. Over the year, Macon gained 2,400 jobs, a 2.4 percent increase from May 2015.
In metro Warner Robins, the unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in May, down from 5.2 percent in April and down from 6.3 percent in May of 2015, the release said. The number of jobs increased by 500 to 71,800 in May. Over the year, Warner Robins gained 800 jobs, a 1.1 percent increase from May 2015.
Metro Gainesville had the lowest rate at 3.8 percent, while the Heart of Georgia/Altamaha region had the highest at 6.1 percent. Georgia’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in May, down from 5.5 percent in April and down from 5.9 percent last May.
