UNIDO technology beneficial for Pakistan

MULTAN: National Project Coordinator of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Dr Shahina Waheed said on Wednesday that UNIDO’s Global Cleantech Innovation Programme was beneficial for all sectors in Pakistan.

It would reduce poverty and pollution, and produce skilled manpower besides other benefits, Dr Shahina said after giving a detailed briefing to industrialists at the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) here.

She said removing hurdles in way of industrial development, capacity building, keeping the environment clean and extending support to avail modern technology were objectives behind the programme.

Dr Shahina said:”The UNIDO programme in Pakistan stands on three pillars, including elimination of poverty through increasing production activities, trade capacity building to ensure export of Pakistani products into the international markets, and efforts for sustainable development”.

She said industrial energy management and special focus on modern technology could make industrial  perations cost effective, environment-friendly and more beneficial at lower cost.

She said the UNIDO was running ‘Women in Green Industry’ in Pakistan to eliminate environmental pollution, adding that women can prove to be the best pro-environment agents.

She said the UNIDO’s Global Cleantech Innovation programme enjoyed the cooperation of the Pakistan Council of Science and Technology, National Productivity Organization and Pakistan Institute of Management Sciences while big trade and industrial entities were its partners.
