OAKLAND: AC Transit has hired a veteran Silicon Valley transit (SVT) executive to be its new general manager. Michael Hursh, a nine year veteran of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority who has been its chief operating officer since 2012, was confirmed in the new position by AC Transit directors Wednesday. He will take over the East Bay district Sept. 21.
“We are thrilled to have someone of Hursh’s experience and personality to lead AC Transit to a bright future,” said AC Transit Board President Chris Peeples in a news release. “We had many excellent candidates, but Mr. Hursh really stood out.”Michael Hursh has been appointed as the new general manager for AC Transit.
Hursh, a Bay Area transit executive with over 20 years of public service experience, including administration of San Francisco Municipal Railway, will succeed former general manager David Armijo, who resigned in March before a meeting at which he expected to be fired. Kathleen Kelly has been interim general manager.
