DEL RIO: U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville Station recovered a deceased individual from the Rio Grande River.Del Rio Station Marine Unit was able to recover the body.
“Attempting to cross the Rio Grande River poses a great danger and risk,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Rodolfo Karisch. “The river can be a death trap for those individuals not equipped or trained to handle the rough waters.”
At approximately 5 p.m. on Sept. 28, Border Patrol agents received a phone call from Grupo Beta of the National Institute of Migration of Mexico, regarding a body located near the U.S. bank of the Rio Grande River. Due to the harsh terrain where the body was located, and low visibility caused by nightfall, the recovery was postponed until early Tuesday morning. The following morning, the Del Rio Station Marine Unit was able to recover the body. The Kinney County Sherriff’s Office and the Kinney County Justice of the Peace were also present at the scene. The Justice of the Peace pronounced the individual deceased at approximately 1 p.m. The body was turned over to a local funeral home.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
