TEMECULA: U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two men on Interstate 15 last week, each with 621 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle.
Agents conducting routine patrol operations near Temecula attempted to initiate a stop on a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche, who were traveling in tandem. The Tahoe stopped near the I-15 checkpoint while the Avalanche continued north. Shortly after, a second Border Patrol unit stopped the Avalanche. K-9 teams were summoned and alerted to both vehicles. Agents searched the vehicles and discovered 25 bundles of marijuana in each cargo area.
The 31-year-old Mexican national, who was driving the Tahoe, had 620.93 pounds of marijuana inside his SUV. The 26-year old U.S. citizen, who was driving the Avalanche, had 621.26 pounds of marijuana inside his truck. The combined total for the two loads was valued at $745,314.Agents siezed more than 600 pounds of marijuana
The two men and marijuana were turned over to Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicles were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
