US border agents seize nearly $750K in Pot, 2 men arrested

TEMECULA: U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two men on Interstate 15 last week, each with 621 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle.
Agents conducting routine patrol operations near Temecula attempted to initiate a stop on a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche, who were traveling in tandem. The Tahoe stopped near the I-15 checkpoint while the Avalanche continued north. Shortly after, a second Border Patrol unit stopped the Avalanche. K-9 teams were summoned and alerted to both vehicles. Agents searched the vehicles and discovered 25 bundles of marijuana in each cargo area.
The 31-year-old Mexican national, who was driving the Tahoe, had 620.93 pounds of marijuana inside his SUV. The 26-year old U.S. citizen, who was driving the Avalanche, had 621.26 pounds of marijuana inside his truck. The combined total for the two loads was valued at $745,314.Agents siezed more than 600 pounds of marijuana
The two men and marijuana were turned over to Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicles were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
Last fiscal year, the San Diego Sector intercepted 17,497 pounds of marijuana, which was an increase of 63.4 percent from the prior year.
