DEL RIO: U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the Del Rio Sector seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of more than $800,000 in four different incidents.
On June 10 at approximately 7 a.m., agents from the Carrizo Springs Station received a phone call from a local ranch worker reporting a suspicious vehicle on private property. Upon arriving at the location, agents encountered the vehicle traveling north bound on the ranch. The agents performed an immigration inspection on the two subjects, revealing one subject to being a citizen of Mexico and illegally in the U.S. After further inspection agents discovered 647 pounds of marijuana, valued at $517,910. Both subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the Carrizo Springs Station for processing. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
“The men and women of the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol continue to work diligently and demonstrate vigilance in protecting our communities from illegal drugs,” said Rodolfo Karisch, Chief Patrol Agent, Del Rio Sector.
On June 11 at approximately 9 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Station received a phone call from a concerned citizen reporting suspicious activity along a canal road. Upon arriving at the location, agents discovered several military-style duffel bags containing 183 pounds of marijuana, valued at $147,120. The marijuana was turned over to the DEA.
On June 29 at approximately noon, an agents from the Eagle Pass South Station while conducting linewatch operations, observed two suspicious vehicles, an F-150 pickup and a Ford Expedition traveling south on Farm to Market Road 1021. The agents attempted to perform an immigration inspection on the occupants of the F-150. The vehicle failed to yield and agents observed the two occupants run out of the vehicle. While securing the vehicle, the agents observed two bundles in the back seat of the vehicle. A search of the area for the subjects, resulted in two apprehensions. A total of 131 pounds of marijuana was seized, valued at $105,528. The narcotics were turned over to the DEA.
On July 8 at approximately 9 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass South Station, conducting linewatch operations, encountered two duffel bags near the river. The duffel bags were found to contain 61 pounds of marijuana, valued at $49,496. The narcotics were turned over to the DEA.
For Fiscal Year 2015, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector has seized more than $10.4 million worth of narcotics. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
