NEW YORK: A Brownsville man was arrested after being accused of attempting to smuggle heroin into the U.S.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found approximately 7.94 pounds of heroin during a secondary inspection at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville.
The 23-year-old Brownsville man was behind the wheel of a 1999 Nissan Frontier when a Customs and Border Protection referred him to secondary inspection.
The Office of Field Operations used a non-intrusive imaging system during the check, according to a Customs and Border Protection news release.
That’s when they found six packages within the vehicle, authorities said.
The man was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations.
