SANTA TERESA: Three pounds of meth were seized at the Santa Teresa port of entry , and some of it was stuffed inside a bra, officials said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection selected a 2006 Dodge Stratus for a secondary inspection just before noon.
Officials said something seemed off about the vehicle’s oil pan, and officers found a hidden compartment containing a metal box that had meth inside.
The driver, Angelica Guadalupe Gomez Carrillo, 32, was taken into custody, and during a pat down, officers found two more packages of meth that were concealed in her bra, officials said.
“This seizure represents both extremes smugglers will go to conceal contraband,” said Ray Provencio, CBP Santa Teresa port director. “Smugglers built a special compartment to stash a portion of the drug load within the engine compartment, which is a very involved process. The other side of the spectrum is someone simply trying to hide contraband under their clothing, which is very low-tech.”
The Chihuahua woman was turned over to federal agents in connection to the smuggling attempt.
