NEW YORK: A Raymondville man is in federal custody after federal agents say he tried to smuggle more than half a million dollars worth of methamphetamine into the U.S. this morning.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the 21-year-old Raymondville drove across the Veteran’s International Bridge in Brownsville Tuesday morning in a 2007 gray Chevrolet Aveo.
During a secondary inspection the man’s car was scanned with the x-ray machine and CBP officers say that is when they discovered anomalies within the subcompact car.
With the aid of a K-9 unit officers found 20 packages hidden in the car that reportedly contained 26.32 pounds of methamphetamine. The street value of the drug is approximately $526,458.
