TUCSON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of San Luis arrested two people on April 23 in connection with separate failed attempts to smuggle hard drugs worth more than $172,000 into the United States.CBP officers seized more than five pounds of heroin that was concealed within a travel bag being carried through pedestrian crossing
After a CBP officer working at the port’s pedestrian lane referred an 18-year-old Glendale, Arizona man for secondary inspection of a travel bag, officers found more than five pounds of heroin worth in excess of $90,000.
Later in the day, officers referred a 20-year-old California woman for a secondary inspection of her Jeep SUV. After a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs within the gas tank, officers removed more than 27 pounds of meth approximately $82,000.
Officers arrested both subjects and turned them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
