NEW YORK: A passenger flying in to Kennedy Airport in New York had 11 pounds of liquid cocaine hidden in bottles of “illegal salad dressing,” officials say.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say that Andres Josue Leal Valle, a citizen of Guatemala, arrived from Mexico City with three suitcases and one carry-on on Oct. 5, The Associated Press reports.
During an inspection, officers found bottles containing oil and vinegar that appeared thicker than their content description, reports NJ.com. Security agents opened bottles of oil and vinegar in Leal Valle’s luggage and noticed an unusual odor, the AP says.
“An arriving passenger at John F. Kennedy International Airport was bringing in more than oil and vinegar as U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized his illegal salad dressing,” the agency said in a news release Wednesday.
Officials said the street value of the cocaine is about $194,000, NJ.com reports.
