LAREDO: Customs and Border Protection has come across an unusual smuggling attempt case.
They seized a cache of undeclared live queen and worker honey bees from a group of travelers in a pickup truck.
The incident happened this week at the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge, when agents were doing an inspection on a pickup truck.
The multiple colonies of honey bees were inside a wooden box – a total of 40 live bees.
The agents confiscated the bees, since it is prohibited to import live insects without the proper import permits.
