BROWNSVILLE: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Gateway International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged cocaine. CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $480,760 hidden within a 2005 maroon Ford Five Hundred sedan.
“I congratulate our CBP officers’ efforts in keeping these dangerous drugs from entering the country,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry.
The seizure took place on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Gateway International Bridge when a 56-year-old male Mexican citizen and his spouse, a 52-year-old Mexican citizen, who reside in Brownsville, Texas, applied for entry into the United States driving a 2005 maroon Ford Five Hundred. The driver and his spouse were referred to CBP secondary for further examination. With the help of a K-9 unit, CBP officers discovered 25 packages hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers removed the packages which contained a total of 62.35 pounds of alleged cocaine.
The estimated street value of the narcotics from the seizure is approximately $480,760.
CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver, and the passenger and turned them over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
