ALABAMA:The Elba Chamber of Commerce held its annual Chamber Banquet last, Sept. 10, at the National Security Conference Center (NSCC) in Elba. The theme for this year’s banquet was “A Celebration of Success” and approximately 130 people attended the event.Linda Hodge, chairman of the board of directors, welcomed everyone to the event. She noted the evening’s theme was very fitting this year considering all the successes Elba has enjoyed over the past year, including becoming a Main Street Alabama designated community.
Elba Chamber executive director Sandy Bynum thanked Five-Star Catering of Fort Rucker for providing the delicious meal. She was especially proud to note the caterer, a chamber member, had worked closely with Elba businesses Kelley Foods and Pope Tent and Rentals in preparing for the event. Following the meal, the group listened to a very inspirational testimony from Patricia “Sister Schubert” Barnes on how she became the founder of the highly successful Sister Schubert’s Rolls.
Barnes noted that three “G’s” had been instrumental in getting her where she is her grandmother [from whom she received the homemade roll recipe in which the company was founded], God [He created the path for her to follow] and her husband George [he got her rolls marketed and into grocery stores, which led to the overwhelming success of the company.
