ALABAMA: Governor Robert Bentley admits legislators don’t have much time left to figure out the general fund budget but he said he’s cautiously optimistic” the problem will be solved. They’re going to have to work fast but it can be done.
Lawmakers will return to Montgomery to figure out the state’s budget crisis. At this point there’s no consensus on a plan of action but a lot of ideas are being tossed out.
Friday the Governor spoke to the Bessemer Chamber of Commerce about Alabama’s budget issues he said, We need to fundamentally change the way we budget in the state of Alabama and if we don’t do that we’re not going to solve the problem.
So how do you fundamentally change the way the state budgets. Governor Bentley said, Fundamentally changing the way we budget means we have to get growth money into the general fund so this will not occur year after year for the next seventy years like it has for the last seventy.
