MANGALURU: The 26/11 Mumbai terror attack of 2008 has even made the United States of America sit up and take notice, said DySP HN Venkatesh Prasanna.
Prasanna returned home after a five-day training programme on seaport security anti-terrorism training programme (SSATP) in Charleston, US. After observing the technology used in the US to secure its ports, the officer pointed out that India has a long way to go to implement something similar.
He said: “The US has secured islands which connect to the mainland so that they can thwart attack on its ports. The US has already honed its security apparatus at ports, which is being further fine-tuned. However, in India, there is no basic security at the Old Port or other fish landing centre barring the New Mangalore Port, let alone security checks of vessels arriving from other islands,.
