NEW YORK: Users can now find their lost Android Phone easily with the help of Google provided you have an Android.
Here’s how it works: First, you log into the account tied to your phone. Actually, you can log into any account tied to your phone: I tried it with a couple of different Gmail accounts that I use on my phone, and it tracked it down every single time.
Then, just Google “find my phone.” Google will track the phone tied to your account, and place it to a surprising degree of accuracy. It won’t pinpoint it right down to the exact location, but it’ll tell you where it is in general.
From there, you’ve got options. If it’s just down the back of the couch, you can ring it, which is startling in how effective it is. Or, if it’s stolen and you don’t think you’re getting it back, you can use the lock and wipe function. Which I didn’t test, but it’s nice to know that it’s available.
Phone Search
Yeah, this may not replace that “Find My Phone” app you have, and it doesn’t work with your iPhone and likely never will. But it’s a clever little piece of design, and it makes tracking down a potentially lost and valuable item a lot more convenient.
