HANOI: Vietnam, the world’s largest robusta producer, exported 162,000 tonnes (2.7 million 60-kg bags) of coffee in May, down 12.9 percent from the previous month, the customs department said on Tuesday, slightly below government estimates.
The shipment last month brought Vietnam’s coffee exports between October 2015 and May, the first eight months of the 2015/2016 crop year, to 1.16 million tonnes, up 19 percent from a year ago, based on government statistics.
Traders had forecast coffee shipments in May at 120,000-160,000 tonnes, while the government estimated the export volume at 170,000 tonnes.
The country’s coffee crop year lasts between October and September.
