Post Clearance Audit detects violation of customs rules in 12 cases

KARACHI: The Customs Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) has detected 12 cases pertaining to the violation of customs rules and SROs and made audit observations amounting to Rs 67 million approximately during the 50 days of the months of April and May, 2015.

According to details, the PCA has detected six cases of mis-declaration of classification, non-application of valuation ruling and claim of inadmissible benefit of SRO659(I)/2007 amounting to Rs 22.87 million in share of custom duty and sales tax.

The officials of Post Clearance Audit have also found short revenue recovery cases amounting to Rs10.65 million in form of custom duty and Rs12.22 million in form of sales tax, withholding tax and other taxes.

The PCA has also detected three cases amounting to Rs 58,135 in which the importers took inadmissible concession of sales tax and corresponding income tax in violation of provision of SRO1125 (I)/2011.

The PCA detected a massive tax evasion case in which the unscrupulous elements were involved in ex-bonding of goods without payment of duty/taxes amounting to Rs 5.47 million including Rs1millin in form of custom duty and Rs 4.47 million in wake of sales tax.

PCA also detected a case of short payment in term of income tax through the violation of Clause 9A part-II of the Section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 and non-payment of anti-dumping duty.

The PCA made audit observations amounting to Rs 3.23 including Rs 594,259 in share of custom duty and Rs 2.64 million as sales tax.

The Post Clearance Audit has detected a short payment of custom duty amounting to Rs 36.28 million in violation of SRO567 (I)/2006.

PCA officials informed Customs Today that the audit observations have been sent to the Director Post Clearance Audit, Gul Rehman for further legal proceedings.
