The sources informed Customs Today that the Collector Customs preferred a known tendency to proceed with criminal investigations and penalties in the most serious cases which posted loss of millions to national exchequer and further steps will also be taken to facilitate genuine traders.

The Collector Customs further expressed that the domestic industry is obviously keen to draw the attention of local customs authorities when they notice suspected violations by importers or customs officials posted for duty at any check post of Customs Department.

The Collector Customs concluded that the given importers of genuine record should not be the target of administrative investigations and those must bear the brunt of any sanction imposed who do fraud while declaration of their consignments or provide fake papers as proof of their clearance, they would be well advised to monitor their suppliers’ compliance with customs and other regulations as well in order to take serious actions against them.
