The tubewells will be installed in the grounds of Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) and the people will fetch clean water from these points. Well-placed sources in Wasa told APP that the project would be completed in two phases till 2016.

Wasa had already sought permission from the PHA to issue NOC for installation of tubewells and filtration plants on the PHA land, the sources added. As soon as the NOC granted, the WASA will start operation to install tubewells, it said.

Under the approved scheme, Wasa will be responsible of installation, operation and maintenance of the plants. After the success of this pilot project, the government will expand it to other areas of the city.

It may be mention here that the Punjab government under the vision of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, setup an independent company Punjab Saaf Pani Company with an aim to ensure provision of clean drinking water to every citizen and a huge amount has been allocated in the Annual Development Programme in this regard.
