HARIPUR: Due to rise in water level, the Khanpur Dam authorities have opened the spillway of the reservoir, which has attracted a large number of tourists from Haripur, Taxila, Wah Cantonment, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and surrounding areas.
Sources said that the spillways would remain open for next eight hours, discharging over 6,000 cusecs of water. Because of heavy rains that lashed Hazara division, especially the hilly region of Galiyat and AJK, water level in the reservoir increased to 1981 feet, while maximum conservation level is 1982 feet.
