ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation measured by Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) decreased by 0.27 per cent for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000 during the week ended on May 14.
According to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 202.69 points against 203.24 points registered in the previous week. The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. Meanwhile, the SPI for the combined income group was also decreased by 0.24 percent as it went down from 211.19 points in the previous week to 210.69 points in the week under review.
Similarly, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 0.47 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000 and 18,001-35,000 decreased by 0.26 percent,0.25 percent, 0.24 percent and 0.20 percent respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 5 items registered decrease, while that of 13 items increase with the remaining 31 items’ prices unchanged. The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included tomatoes, onions, chicken farm, mustard oil and LPG cylinder (11 kg). The items which recorded increase in their average prices included garlic, eggs (farm), bananas, pulse gram (washed), red chilly powder (loose),cigarettes, pulse moong (washed), pulse mash (washed), kerosene oil, gur (average quality), sugar, pulse masoor (washed), potatoes, wheat, soap, vegetable ghee and wheat flour.
