ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar has said that negotiations with traders are in progress and the deadline may be extended if both sides fail to reached an agreement regarding withholding tax (WHT).
Talking to Customs Today, he said that had traders turned to negotiation, the issue of WHT would have been settled by now. He said that it is still not too late and there are chances of settlement at any time as negotiations are underway between government and traders. Traders have given their charter of demand to the government but it is too early to talk about any breakthrough.
He told Customs Today that every country’s development depends on its tax system and it is need of the hour to strengthen Pakistan’s tax system. Without improving tax culture, it is difficult to overcome poverty and illiteracy.
He said that traders are the main source of revenue for a country so the government is keen to work day and night to resolve their problems.
