Hong Kong police were investigating whether foul play was involved in the death of a young girl found dead at home in the Customs and Excise Department’s staff quarters on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the flat at Hong Lam Court on Siu Lek Yuen Road, Sha Tin, soon after 9am, when police got a call from the girl’s father.

“Initial investigation showed the girl, thought to be aged three or four, was found collapsed on the premises,” a police spokesman said, adding that she was certified dead at the scene.

At 12 noon, officers were investigating at the scene.

Separately, an 11-year-old boy was receiving surgery in hospital after accidentally falling from a flat at the Parc Versailles housing estate on Mui Shu Hang Road, Tai Po, shortly after 6am.

According to police, the boy was found by his 37-year-old mother on the first-floor podium of the six-storey building, with leg injuries.

He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin for treatment.
