WASHINGTON: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation hosted a job fair for the more than 100 Veterans in Tucson.44 Businesses from Tucson and Phoenix took part in the job fair.Event organizers said the national unemployment rate is around five percent. For veterans, it’s over 7 percent. Organizers said they are trying to reduce these numbers. From its job fairs over the last four years, more than 27,000 veterans have got a job.
Ildefonzo Villanueva, a veteran who served in the U.S. Army for more than 10 years, is hoping to get a job.”From the education I learned before, from the combat experience to logistics support side, it actually intertwines together,” said Villanueva. “I feel I am well-rounded.”Some of the employers at the job fair were veterans themselves. Shaun Downs works at Terra Environmental Services.
“The best way to serve the ones that served us is by giving them a job, and using their traits and what they were trained to do in boot camp and the military,” said Downs. Navy veteran Buck Crouch, an agency development manager at for Colonial Life, said he’s always looking to hire veterans.”You can depend on them,” said Crouch. “They show up when they say they are going to and they have a strong work ethic.”Crouch already has two veterans on his staff, one of whom is Air Force veteran David Coats worth.
