Tax evasion: FBR for investigation in clearance of consignments under SRO1125

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed Customs-Appraisement-East, Customs-Appraisement-West and Customs Port Muhammad Bin Qasim to scrutinize the data of goods cleared under SRO1125.

Sources informed Customs Today that the FBR has noticed that massive tax evasion in clearance of cloth consignments have been reported under SRO1125.

“In the first phase, the field formation Collectorates would scrutinize the clearance data of the last three months under SRO1125,” sources added.

The sources further informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of the FBR headquarters have transpired that millions of rupees embezzlement has already been reported in importation of cloth consignments under SRO1125.

Responding to a query, the sources further disclosed that the authorities concerned of field formation Collectorates while following the directives of the FBR high-ups have started to prepare the list of the importers who are involved in importation of cloth consignments under SRO1125.

“The Collectors of all three field formation Collectorates have passed on the directives to all relevant staff including Research and Development (R&D) Section and Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) to expedite the working in connection with finalizing the lists of the importers who are involve in importing the consignments under SRO1125.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Customs-FBR had already initiated a marathon investigation in connection with the clearance of the consignments under SRO1125, in last previous years and also found millions of rupees mis-declaration in clearance of the consignments under SRO1125.

It may be mentioned here that the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR in the reign of Director General-Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigations Lutfullah Virk was registered dozens of FIRs against the importers who found in tax evasion estimating millions of rupees in clearance of the consignments under SRO1125.
