Facilitating trade helps in earning foreign exchange, revenue: Falik Shair

FAISALABAD: Extending maximum facilities and payment of rebates encourage the business community to speed up its trade activities, which are sources of earning valuable foreign exchange and revenue generation.

This was stated by Faisalabad Customs Deputy Collector Rana Falik Shair during an interview with Customs Today. After getting permission from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Collector Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali was taking keen interest in settling the rebate claims filed the traders, he informed.

He revealed that the collectorate issued rebate cheques worth Rs 246.373 million to the Faisalabad-based business community from February to May, 2016 in order to facilitate the traders. Issuing of rebates will provide an opportunity to the traders for purchasing more raw materials used for producing export-oriented items.

The Faisalabad Customs has issued rebates to the textile sector on garments, chemical companies, and other big and small business firms, he said, adding that the exporters of small medium enterprises will take benefit from this process of rebate refund. The business community has appreciated the settling of rebate claims.

He said pending refund claims will also be cleared soon. He said some cases of last five years i.e. 2011-15 were pending which will be decided soon by the Collector Zulfiqar and rebates will be paid to the exporters concerned.

The rebate branch under the supervision of Superintendent Muhammad Mukhtar was playing its due role efficiently, he said, adding that the process of traders’ applications was finalised within three weeks.

He revealed that the rebate branch paid Rs 21.203 million in February, 2016, Rs 106.283 million in March, Rs 69.07 million in April and Rs 49.816 million in May to the exporters and traders.

The deputy collector said that the government has offered the rebates to raise export volume and earn valuable foreign exchange, adding that the process was being carried out without any inconvenience.
