Quetta Customs foils attempt to smuggle non-duty paid luxury vehicles

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta has stepped up their efforts to curb smuggling in the region. The Customs authorities are using all available resources to control this menace.

Sources told Customs Today that Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Imtiaz Ahmad Khan received information that some smugglers are planning to smuggle a huge quantity of non-duty paid luxury vehicles from Quetta to Karachi.

He conveyed the information to deputy director customs directing him to take effective measures to thwarted these attempts. Deputy director formed a team comprising inspectors Safdar Khan Abbasi and Inspector Shamim Khan.

Customs Intelligence team established various check points at different locations of the city and started checking of vehicles. During checking process customs team intercepted a container and recovered three luxury vehiles which were loaded on the container. Customs team asked the driver of container to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of luxury vehicles, but the driver of the container failed to provide any relevant documents.

After their failure customs team arrested all the three persons and registered a case of smuggling against them. The market value of seized luxury vehicles is Rs8 million.

Sources said that on an information conveyed by Director General Customs Intelligence Imtiaz Ahmad Khan deputy director customs constituted a team whih intercepted a mini truck and recovered huge quantity of Iranian origin juices. Owners of Iranian juice failed to produce any documents regading import and possession of Iranian juices. Customs team arrested the driver and his companion and seized the goods. The market value of seized Iranian juice is Rs1 million. Customs team after registering a case of smuggling forwarded the case to customs Adjudication authorities for further proceedings.
