ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau’s executive board has given a clean chit to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a reference of illegal appointments in the Federal Investigation Agency and misuse of authority in 1999.

The case against the former premier was pending with the NAB since December 18, 1999 but now the anti-corruption watchdog closed it.

Sources said that closure of the case against ex-premier was also part of the Executive Board Meeting, which was held Wednesday in the chair of NAB Chairman Justice (Retd) Javeed Iqbal.

They said that Nawaz Sharif had appointed 30 officials in FIA ranging between the ranks of constables and assistant directors.

They further said that the NAB Rawalpindi chapter had sent the case to the NAB headquarters with the recommendation to file a reference in this case after completion of investigation a few years back.

The case is also part of the list of 179 mega corruption cases which the bureau had submitted in the Supreme Court last year.
