Customs Court approves remand of suspect booked in LED TVs smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Muhammad Shareef son of Abdul Salam Khan to customs department on physical remand, who is booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 156 Samsung Brand LED TVs and others contraband goods.

On July 28, 2018, during the hearing, Appraising Officer Muhammad Zeeshan Wazir produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that M/s Sagheer Enterprises imported a consignment from Jebel Ali and filed goods declaration for clearance thereof, declaring description of the goods as used auto parts weighing 25,000 kilograms at declared/self-assessed total value of $4,840, on receipt of a credible information. The consignment was selected for joint examination by the staff of PICT Examination and R&D Section.

He further informed the court that during the search, goods were found inside the container 156 Samsung Brand LED TVs, new genuine auto parts of Japanese, 90 bales of new ladies polyester suiting fabric net weight 4500 kilograms, new AC compressors 92, new batteries etc.

He submitted that during the investigation, it is established that the accused importer Usman, proprietor of M/s Sagheer Enterprises, Lahore, Rahamatullah Quetta and Muhammad Shareef son of Abdul Saleem Khan Kakar, Quetta have deliberately mis-declared description, to get illegal clearance of the banned items under the garb of transshipment cargo, also evading legitimate amount of duties and taxes in the tune of Rs8,323,009.

He submitted that they have, thus, contravened provision of Section 15, 32, 32 A, 79, 121, 151-1 and 192 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 9, 14, 14 A, 43, 44, 45, 46, 63, 101 and 86 of section 156 (1) ibid read with allied laws and procedure
